In 1825 Trouville-sur-Mer was a modest fishing port organized around 5 oyster beds. In 1847 the town expanded to include Hennequeville, a neighbouring fishing village. Trouville became famous thanks to the artists and writers who came here, as well as rich, influential visitors who invested in new buildings.
Trouville has had a public beach since the 17th century, and the beach has been a great success since the 19th century, when a young Parisian painter, Charles Mozin, seduced by the dunes and the unspoilt natural setting, made the beach famous through an exhibition of his paintings in the “Salon Carré” at the Louvre.
