There are four shopping centres. The Kerkbuurt in particular is suitable for recreational shopping. There is also the Sliedrechtse home furnishing boulevard on the Nijverwaard. Weekly market is on Wednesday, this is on Burgemeester Winklerplein. Thursday evening is shopping evening.
Van Mourik (Shoe Store) in Sliedrecht, Netherlands
Since 1913, the family business Van Mourik has been a household name in the heart of Sliedrecht and the surrounding area. The store had grown little by little with 700m2 of space into one of the largest shoe stores. The wide range is built up in women’s shoes size 34 to size 43, men’s shoes size 38 to size 50, children’s shoes size 18 to 42 and leather goods. During the Fashion Store Awards 2024-2025, Van Mourik was voted the best shoe store in the Netherlands.
The assortment of the Goedeboeken bookstore consists mainly of Bibles and reformed books, such as theology, sermon books, meditations, diaries, reading books for young and old and sheet music (notes and klavarskribo). In addition, they have a wide assortment of related books, such as Bible commentaries, study books for theological studies, memorial books from churches, schools, etc. Goedeboeken also offers books in old editions. In the store they also have a large selection of (cheap) cards, both greeting cards and postcards.

King en Quinna is a family business. Its roots lie in the Alblasserwaard, in Brandwijk to be precise, where Daan de Bruin laid the foundation for what would later become the fashionstores of the sons Floor and Dick de Bruin in Papendrecht, and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. In 1972, Daan de Bruin found an empty grocery store in Sliedrecht to open a King en Quinna branch there.
Early February 1984, two brothers, Arie and Theo van Wijngaarden, started a very modest model railway studio, “De Treinkelder”, in the basement of brother Theo’s dike house at Kerkbuurt 14 in Papendrecht. Repairing, rebuilding, spraying and especially the so-called “dirt” spraying of equipment became a great success. Within a year it turned out to be such a success that a larger space was sought. This was found in the former NS station in Sliedrecht. In 1985, the new shop was opened at the platform, in which all known and unknown brands of trains and accessories were sold. The name was changed to ‘t Oude Station. Despite the special location, they still had to make a decision after a year and a half to move to a larger building. All this resulted in buying the building Kerkbuurt 238 in Sliedrecht. But eventually, seven years later, the question arose: close or grow? After much discussion and exploring the possibilities, the decision was made. The brothers took a building in Papendrecht in 1995, the range was expanded and more staff was hired. And in 1995 the opening of the now largest model building shop in the region took place.
