The oldest Dutch newspaper was the Courante uyt Italien, Duytslandt, & c. from 1618. It consisted of a single sheet of paper, roughly A4 size, printed on one side. A copy of it is in the Swedish Royal Library. The Opregte Haerlemsche Courant from 1656 is also often referred to as one of the oldest newspapers. The Algemeen Handelsblad was the first newspaper to be published every day in 1830. The oldest newspaper in the Netherlands operating under the same title is the Leeuwarder Courant. The newspaper was founded in 1752 and initially only contained foreign news, as this was what appealed to its readers, mainly merchants. Later there was also national news in the newspaper and only since 1850 also provincial news.
