In 2009, Todd Bol from Hudson Wisconsin, USA built a scale model of a small school building in honor of his mother, a former teacher who loved to read. He filled it with books and placed it on a pole in the front yard. The first ‘little free library’ was born. In 2013, Mirjam Goudswaard from Oud-Beijerland started the Dutch site for mini libraries, where you can find construction drawings, order ready-made cabinets and indicate the location of your own mini library. In Belgium, there is Books in Boxes, and previously there was also Chaletters.
