ICI Paris XL was founded in 1968, when a Belgian couple opened a perfumery in Elsene (Ixelles in French, which has the same pronunciation as XL). At that time, luxury goods were still imported directly from the French capital. The couple wanted to make these goods accessible to the general public. The first store opened in the Netherlands in 1997. In 1996 the chain was taken over by Kruidvat Holding, which was taken over in 2002 by the Hong Kong-Chinese A.S. Watson Group, part of Hutchison Whampoa. The headquarters in the Benelux of the A.S. Watson Group is located in Renswoude, the Netherlands. There is also an office in Vilvoorde, Belgium.
