The eventful history of the two companies, Sinn and Leffers, began with the traditional traveling trade. So-called ‘Kiepenkerle’ moved from place to place with their offer in baskets (“Kiepen”) on their backs and offered their goods. So did Johannes and Friedrich Sinn, who traveled from the Sauerland to the Ruhr area and the Rhineland to sell their pieces and haberdashery there. Soon afterwards, Johannes Sinn and his sons took their first steps in the stationary retail trade when they also started their sales in the storage facilities.
