One of the most famous Dutch beaches is at Zandvoort. Together with the sea and dunes it forms a wonderful nature reserve where you can enjoy water sports or just relax. Popular with tourists and families, Zandvoort boasts wide, sandy beaches and a good choice of funky beach bars for food and drinks overlooking the sea.

With more of a party atmosphere than its neighbour Zandvoort is Bloemendaal. Characterised by its fantastic selection of cool beach bars and clubs, Bloemendaal has regular live bands and DJs creating open air parties that go on well into the night. For adventurous people, there’s an area for nude sunbathing that can be found further north up the shore. Between the regular town and the sea and sand, there is a wild dune landscape.

Wijk aan Zee is a lovely sea side village that has the broadest beach of the province of North Holland. It’s the best beach near Amsterdam for surfers and kite surfers. The beach next to the North Pier is especially popular among the surfers. Beach resort Wijk aan Zee is oddly famous for its out of place industrial look. Next to the village is the steel making company Tata located, formerly the Dutch Hoogovens. The white fumes that rise of the dark industrial complex provide a surrealist backdrop of the beautiful white sandy beach and green and white dunes.
