Action is a Dutch non-food discount store chain with more than 2,500 branches in 11 countries by 2023. The retail chain mainly operates in the low-price range. About 6,000 items are offered, but the range varies widely. There are about 1500 permanent articles and the rest varies.

The company started in 1993 as a small shop in Enkhuizen started by Gerard Deen and Rob Wagemaker. Later Boris Deen was added. That same year, branches were added in North Holland. In 1994, the chain expanded with another five stores to reach 94 stores in 2002. In 2011, Action was acquired by the private equity house 3i for €500 million. At the time there were 269 stores, 8,000 employees and annual turnover was approximately €600 million. After the takeover, €275 million was invested in Action. On September 27, 2012, the company opened its 300th store. The 1000th store opened in Gorinchem in October 2017. That year, Action was active in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Austria and Poland. In 2017, Action closed the year with 35,000 employees, which was 6,000 more than in 2016, and 15,000 worked in the Netherlands.

In May 2017, 3i provided a loan of €1.6 billion. In January 2018, the investor provided a complete refinancing of the loans to Action. 3i brought a fifth recapitalization with a loan of €2.3 billion in dividends. In 2018, 3i owned 45% of the Action shares, and Eurofund V, a private fund, also managed 35% of the shares. 3i later expanded its stake and owned more than 52% of the shares in 2021.

In logistics terms, Action works like a supermarket chain, with its own transport from distribution centers to the stores. In 2003, a distribution center was built on the WFO industrial estate in Zwaagdijk (North Holland). In 2014, a second center was opened at Echt in Limburg.
